My approach to therapy
My therapy style
I value helping people through empowerment, nurturance, and learning. I am an innovative provider and enjoy creativity in the therapy room. This is why I love working with people of all ages. I utilize a strengths based approach in therapy and see the therapy as a collaborative process. I am passionate about helping individuals find confidence and courage, and I admire their resilience.
Therapy with me can also be a lot of fun. Because I work a lot with children, I have a naturally playful style, and often bring humor into the therapy room. Laughter has been shown in neurological studies to be a healing experience. I enjoy the process of getting to know clientsā own senses of humor and working it into sessions. This is similar to how I work to understand peopleās strengths and overall coping strategies, which is important in the change process.
I have been in practice for nearly 15 years. I enjoy working with children (3 and older), adolescents, adults, and families. I have experience as a home-based family therapist and in outpatient mental health specializing in autism spectrum disorders (ASD), ADHD, neruodivergence, sexual trauma, anxiety, and depression. I also worked as a social worker in schools and a childrenās hospital.
In my work, I believe it is important to empower others to consciously narrate their lives. Every personās story belongs to them, and therapy is a useful way for people to decide the meaning of their own stories. The pivotal events of our lives cannot change. However we do have the power to determine what they mean to us, and how we carry these stories moving forward.
I believe that developing connection and trust is critically important in therapy. I bring a deep curiosity into my work and I love the process of getting to know clientsā minds. While many people come to therapy with a set of goals in mind, I find that the reasons people continue therapy evolve over time. This is part of the deep exploration and movement that happens throughout a therapeutic journey.

Work Experience
From the time I was middle school age, I always found myself being the listener and helper to lots of my friends. They knew they could talk to me and that I would listen without judgment and help them feel better. I felt this was my calling when I read about the resilience of Dave Pelzer when I read A Child Called It, which led me to study social work.
I attended graduate school at the University of Kansas (Rock Chalk!) and began work with children and teens both in and outside of school settings. I also volunteered at Headquarters Counseling Center, which is connected to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline network.
I then worked in a home based family therapy practice that specialized in neurodivergence of all ages in the Kansas City area. It was here that I came to appreciate doing therapy in innovative ways, because of the different places Iād work with people.
My spouse and I then moved back to Minnesota and I was a school social worker in general and special education settings for children and teens. Later on, I felt called back to doing outpatient mental health therapy, allowing me to resume meaningful work with adults as well as children.
