Brain-based Trauma Therapy (EMDR/ART)

Neurologically based therapy to resolve trauma

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders. EMDR is a way to treat past disturbing experiences that continue to cause distress because the memory was not adequately processed in our brain. These unprocessed memories are understood to contain the emotions, thoughts, beliefs and physical sensations that occurred at the time of the event. EMDR therapy focuses directly on the memory, and is intended to change the way that the memory is stored in the brain, thus reducing and eliminating the problematic symptoms. EMDR is different than talk therapy as it uses bilateral stimulation (BLS) to get the two sides of the brain communicating differently. Which will help to restore the information in your brain more adaptive. This will help you experience the memories with less distress and reduce the power of those past experiences. While clients briefly focus on the trauma memory and simultaneously experience bilateral stimulation (BLS), the vividness and emotion of the memory are reduced.

Early Trauma Protocol

I also do EMDR for early childhood trauma. This is for repairing early trauma and neglect from preconception to age 3. We tend to have some recollection of memories after the age of 3. (Regular EMDR can be used for those memories.)

Insecure or chaotic attachments, from very early on, can be associated with adult anxiety, depression and other mental health difficulties. Sometimes these mental health concerns are already developed before the age of 3. I like using the early childhood trauma protocol with people. I find it exciting to have a way to help people repair attachment trauma and be able to clear stuck emotions. I look forward to helping you also.

Accelerated resolution therapy, or ART, is a type of therapy that combines principles from several traditional forms of therapy to reduce the effect of trauma and other psychological stressors. Using techniques such as rapid eye movement and image rescripting, this approach works to recondition stressful memories changing how they are stored in the brain to improve overall mental health. People seeking therapy to reduce the impact of symptoms related to traumatic or stress-inducing memories or increase their capacity for resilience within a relatively short timeframe may find ART beneficial. There are a lot of similarities and difference when it comes to ART vs EMDR. Contact me for me clarification if needed.
